Steam cleaners and chemical cleaners solve the same problem in almost opposite ways — one uses heat and water vapor, the other uses formulated chemistry to break things down. Both work. How Steam Cleaners Work
A steam cleaner heats water to around 200-300°F and forces it through a nozzle as pressurized vapor. That heat loosens grease, dissolves grime, and lifts dirt off hard surfaces without needing a cleaning solution at all. Steam also reaches into grout lines, tile seams, and appliance seals that a cloth or spray bottle can't fully cover.
The trade-off: steam cleaners need a warm-up cycle, a water refill, and generally more physical effort per session than grabbing a spray bottle.
How Chemical Cleaners Work
Chemical cleaners rely on surfactants, solvents, or acids to break down grease, dissolve mineral buildup, or lift stains on contact. They work instantly — spray, wipe, done — and different formulas are built for different jobs: degreasers for kitchens, descalers for hard water, disinfecting sprays for high-touch surfaces.
Because the cleaning power comes from the formula rather than heat, chemical cleaners are also easier to target — you can match a specific product to a specific mess instead of relying on one tool for everything.
